Experience Disney for Runners

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris both offer marathon races for runners.  These popular events occur at various times of the year.  Disney Resorts also have unique running experiences for those passionate about getting a few kilometers of running in while on vacation.  Participants also usually receive a unique medal for each race as a special keepsake, along with the chance to purchase special runDisney merchandise for the event.

CLUB runDISNEY

Announced in January 2020, Club runDisney is a membership-based club designed around runDisney.


Membership registration opens on January 18, 2020 and consists of three (3) membership levels (Silver, Gold, and Platinum) which range in price from $265.43 USD to $798.43 USD to join for the year, which begins on October 1, 2020 and runs through to September 30, 2021.

EVENTS AT DISNEY PARKS AND RESORTS

The following are running events from around Disney Parks and Resorts:


CASTAWAY CAY

The following are running events held at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas:

Castaway Cay 5K (various times throughout the year)

Passengers on the Disney Cruise Line that stop at Castaway Cay, are welcome to join a 5-kilometer run while on the island.  This popular activity requires advance registration at Guest Services on board the ship, which you should do as soon as you board your cruise.

Castaway Cay Challenge Marathon (January 15, 2020)

In May 2019, Disney announced a special marathon that would be held at Castaway Cay on January 15, 2020.  To qualify for the race, you would need to join a dedicated cruise on the Disney Dream which stops at Castaway Cay for the race and have competed in at least one (1) Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend race.  The cost is $80 per person (plus the cost of the cruise!).

Disneyland Paris Princess Run (Cancelled)

The Disneyland Paris Princess Run occurs has been cancelled due to COVID-19.  This new for 2020 race weekend had several races scheduled over the two (2) day event.

Disneyland Paris Run Weekend (Fall 2021)

The 5th Disneyland Paris Run Weekend takes place from in the fall of 2021 at the Disneyland Paris Resort.  The  Disneyland Paris Run Weekend has several races over the four (4) day event.

WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT

The following are running events held at the Walt Disney World Resort:


Resort Running Trails

There are many trails at Walt Disney World Resorts which include the path around Hourglass Lake between Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century Resorts, along with the many other paths at other resorts (such as Disney’s Port Orleans and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort).


There is a word of caution though when running at a Walt Disney World resort hotel, signs may be posted (particularly along bodies of water) to be aware of your surroundings as there may be snakes and alligators (we’re not kidding) around them and so it is important that you remain on the lookout for them.

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend (January 6-10, 2021)

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the first event of the Run Disney year.  With several races, designed for runners of all ages and experience levels held over the five (5) day event, it is a must for anyone interested in a Disney race.

In 2021, this has been converted to a virtual race.  Registration opens on September 24, 2020.

Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend (February 18-21, 2021)

The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend is the second event of the Run Disney year.  With several races, this event is also designed for runners of all ages and experience levels held over the four (4) day event, it is a must for anyone interested in a Disney race.

For 2021, this marathon has been converted to a virtual event.  Registration opens on September 24, 2020.

Star Wars Rival Run Weekend (April 15 -18, 2021)

The Star Wars Rival Run Weekend is the third event of the Run Disney year and the last one held in the spring.  With several races, this event is also designed for runners of all ages and experience levels held over the four (4) day event, it is a must for anyone interested in a Star Wars themed race.

Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend (November 5-8, 2020)

The Disney Wine and Dine Weekend is the fourth event of the Run Disney year and the last one of each year.  With several races, this event is also designed for runners of all ages and experience levels held over the four (4) day event, it is a must for anyone held as part of the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival.

This run has been converted to a virtual event in 2021 due to COVID-19.

VIRTUAL RACES

runDisney also offers two (2) virtual races during the year in which runners register and can complete the race on their own at a location of their choosing.


Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon (January 1 - March 31, 2021)

The first one happens from January through March and is Star Wars themed (note medals are not mailed outside of the US).
